Prevent Shed Break-Ins

Dear Resident

We’ve had a marked reduction in the number of sheds being broken into across the community, however this is not a sign to let your guard down. Have a quick look at the following and review your security.

The top five most common items stolen from sheds

- Bikes

- Mowers

- Sports equipment

- Power tools

- Garden tools

Think like a thief

Take a look at your shed and consider how you would break in. It’s worth having a good padlock on the door with no exposed screws. Pay attention to hinges, as these are sometimes easily removable. If you have windows then these could be vulnerable unless they’re secured with wire mesh or grills. And keep it locked at all times.

To help prevent further incidents, we urge you to take the following security measures:

Lock Up: Always use a high-quality padlock or deadbolt on your shed doors.

Install Lighting: Motion-sensor lights can deter intruders from targeting your property.

Secure Windows: Reinforce shed windows with locks or cover them to prevent thieves from seeing inside.

Anchor Valuables: Secure bikes, tools, and equipment to fixed points inside the shed.

Use Alarms or Cameras: A simple shed alarm or a security camera can help deter criminals.

Mark Your Property: Use permanent markers or engraving to label valuable items with your Post Code, making them harder to sell and easier to identify if stolen.

Be Vigilant: Report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.
